3. Screenplay Writing – Film Ka Blueprint

🔹 Screenplay Kya Hota Hai?

Screenplay ek written document hota hai jisme film ka har scene, dialogue, location aur visual detail likha hota hai — poori film frame by frame likhi hoti hai.

Story Idea se screenplay banta hai.

 Director, Actor, DOP, Editor sab screenplay ko follow karke hi kaam karte hain.

Screenplay Writing Ke 3 Major Components:

  1. Scene Headings (Sluglines)
  2. Action/Description Lines
  3. Dialogue

🔹 Format Ka Example (English Style):

INT. POLICE STATION – NIGHT

Kabir enters, blood on his shirt. The room is quiet. He walks up to the inspector.

                     KABIR
          Main khud ko surrender karne aaya hoon.

The inspector slowly stands and signals the constable.

🔹 Screenplay Writing Ka Step-by-Step Process:

Step 1: Story Structure Samjho (3-Act Structure)

 Act 1 – Setup

  • Introduction of world & characters
  • Establish problem
  • Inciting incident (kuch bada hota hai)

 Act 2 – Confrontation

  • Conflict build hota hai
  • Midpoint twist
  • Hero struggle karta hai

 Act 3 – Resolution

  • Climax
  • Hero jeetta/haarta hai
  • Emotional closure

Step 2: Scene Breakdown (Beat Sheet)

Film ko scenes me tod lo:

Scene Location Kya Hota Hai
1 Reem ka Ghar Bhai ki maut ka tension
2 Hospital Ambulance late hoti hai
3 College Students solution dhoondte hain

Yeh “scene list” ya “beat sheet” hoti hai.

Step 3: Visual Thinking

  • Har scene ko screen pe socho
  • Dialogue nahi, action aur emotion pe focus karo
  • Show, don’t tell (matlab bole nahi, dikhayein)

Step 4: Dialogue Writing

  • Har character ka apna style ho
  • Short, natural, realistic raho
  • Emotional beats me pauses likho

Example:

          (rukte hue)
          Tum jaante ho... us din main chillayi thi... par koi sunne wala nahi tha.

Step 5: Formatting Rules (Industry Standard)

Parenthetical (angrily), (softly), etc.
Transition CUT TO:, FADE IN:, FADE OUT:

Step 6: Screenwriting Software (Use These Tools)

  • Final Draft (industry standard)
  • Celtx (free basic version)
  • WriterDuet (cloud based)
  • Fade In
  • Trelby (open source)

Step 7: Rewriting & Polishing

  1. Pehla draft likho – khud ke liye
  2. Doosra draft – structure fix karo
  3. Teesra draft – dialogue aur pacing improve karo
  4. Director/Producer ke feedback ke baad final polish

Types of Screenplay

 Important Tips:

 Har scene kisi purpose ko serve kare

Har page me kuch naya hona chahiye

Dikhane wali language use karo

 Emotions ko feel karo likhne se pehle

 Pacing tight rakho – zyada baatein nahi, zyada action
